It is such an honor to be judging at our regional specialty. My mother started my love
affair with this magnificent breed and founded Windhaven Mastiffs when I was 11 back
in 1969. I have not been without a mastiff, even while serving in the USAF, since. We
were not prolific breeders but produced many Am. Can. and Int. Champions, group
placers and one BIS mastiff all owner handled except for one, the current love of my life
10 ½ year old Titan aka Ch. Windhaven's Radiance of Northernlites, who is still getting
around soundly…knock on wood.
I am a life time member of the Duluth Kennel Club of which I have held varying board
positions here in Duluth, MN. An honorary life time member of the Midwest Mastiff
fanciers and am a member of the MCOA since 1992. I have attended many, many
seminars through the years and am a member of the MCOA Judges Education committee.
The MCOA national is something I have looked forward to since before I became a
member and after a long illness I got to attend the 2021 national and so enjoyed seeing
everyone again.
I was very involved in Mastiff rescue even before it became part of the MCOA. I was
the MN regional coordinator and for a while the northern half of WI, before we got more
volunteers when the MCOA club took an active part in rescue. Rescue is an important
part of loving mastiffs, we as breeders are NOT the problem but we should be active in
helping our breed when they need us. If you can help in some way, be it fostering,
evaluating, transporting or donations you are needed. Through the RFI (rescue
foundation Inc.) the MCOA club is still participating in rescue so when you see items for
raffle please be generous.
I look forward to 2022 and can't wait to meet all the lovely mastiffs and the people who
love them. Good luck to all and remember to have fun!
Sherry
