My first AKC registered dog was a collie my father bought me when I was
9 years old. I’ve always loved dogs, AKC or not. In the seventies at the grocery
store that I worked, there was a magazine rack with Dog World Magazine. I
frequented the mastiff pages quite often, and I called a few of the ads. One of
which was Tobin Jackson of Deer Run Kennel. My parents WERE NOT at all
enthused about such big dogs, so I had to compromise for a little smaller breed. I
called another ad and ended up with two champion sired Dobermans. Of course I
purchased them from the largest ad. At the time they offered and I quote, pet
dogs, show dogs, and oversized pick of the litter. So, I purchased the oversized
pick of the litter Dobermans.
A few years later a Rottweiler breeder from North Carolina that was living
in Kentucky evaluated my Dobermans and to my dismay my dobes were not the
quality I had thought I had bought. Eventually I bought a Rottweiler puppy, whose
sire was one of the few rotties to win a BIS at the time, and he won 1982
Westminster BOB. I named my boy Dustin, and be received multiple group
placements including a group 1.
I attended my first mastiff nationals when it was held in my home state of
Kentucky. My first male was out of BISS Ch Matts Joshus of Dogwood Knoll
shown by Damara Bolte. My first girls were out of Ch SemperFi Gropetti
Gargoyle x Dear Bubbles and Cluny’s Tribute to Arthur.
Our kennel name is derived from our two kid’s names as well as my and my wife’s name.

At Shabri-EL Mastiffs we couldn’t be more proud of “Bacon”. At only 3 years
of age, Bacon has definitely made a name for herself. She moves beautifully and her
structure is outstanding. In 2014, Bacon won 3 of the biggest sweeps in the country
and became America’s #1 Bitch All Systems! Since then, Bacon has won BOS at the
prestigious Trenton Club a total of 3 times. She was the youngest Bitch to become a
Gold Champion, and was the Top Grand Champion Bitch of all time. In 2015, Bacon
was again America’s #1 Bitch All Systems and #3 overall Mastiff in breed points, and
winning multiple group ones. After a 5-month layoff in 2016, Bacon comes back
sizzling to win the Super Bowl of Mastiffs, BISS BOB at the Texas MCOA Nationals
under judge Holly Scott. She retired from showing at 3 years 4 months.
